Ode To The Breasts

Breasts restrained in bras
of lace and metal fastenings,
lifted separated cleavage,
small medium large,
scented, powdered, pink,
gentle sway and bounce.
Teasing ribbon straps
smoothly slide down the arm,
seductive suggestion
to invite the viewing
of the beauty of the breast.

Yesterday's Dust

You are not
dying because
of your past.
You are dying
you keep
reliving it.

It is a window
covered with
yesterday’s dust.
You can not
see today
for its smudges.

A history book
will remain
in your memory.
Let healing
edit its pain
by forgiving

Wedding of Fools

A wedding of fools
imprisoned by expectations,
a dress, a ring, a ceremony,
a fairy tale with a price tag.
More planning for the event
than understanding of commitment.

The Unsaid

There is the unsaid
that waits on tongue’s tip,
floundering among doubt.
It is as fish without water,
wishing for life
but dying on dry land.

She Writes in Photographs

She writes in photographs.
Life caught in verse
and viewed by imagination.
Her photo album
a journal of snapshots
written in pen.

Lost Pearl

A lost pearl,
the iridescent beauty
survived the sand
that formed her,
but not the lie
 that broke her heart.

Peace On a Clothesline

Peace hangs
on a clothesline.
Different worlds
united in cloth.
A patchwork prayer
attached with hope.

Red Sequined

Red sequined heels
tap together,
always wishing
for somewhere
over the rainbow.
Familiar has lost its luster.
Perhaps it is the spirit
that has dulled.

Memories In Winter Coats

I walked the garden
with its rows of
undressed rose bushes,
their  thorny limbs
pulling at my clothing.
I sought to find spring
in winter moonlight.
All I found were memories
wearing winter coats.

She Sat Gathering Stars

Under the path of the milky way
imagination’s princess
 sat gathering stars
to hang wishes on each one.
Tipping her hat to the moon
she set them free
to decorate the night.
With a twinkle in her eye
she spoke a prayer,
“may each wish find the way
to its dreamer.”

The Drink of Melancholy

I poured melancholy
into a glass
to drink its dark ale
feeling it was better
to swallow its bitterness
before it swallowed me.

Dreams Silent Movies

I was once here,
connected, present.
There was desire,
need, relevance,
but I turned cold,
withdrawn, silent.
Life is what you
make of your dreams.
My dreams are
silent movies
without captions.

My Broken Pencil

My broken pencil is
a link between
thought and paper,
recording in lead
the voice that speaks
through my hand.
Its eraser editor
worn from the abuse
of correcting
errant verse.
A yellow companion
that sacrifices its core
to allow the expression
of mine.

Wilted Sigh

Plump petals worship the sun
each of their days of bloom,
a beautiful bouquet uncut.

This nature painting ends
when scissored hands
cut the flowers from their life support.

Gathered and placed
in an artificial home of water and glass,
they brighten a kitchen table.

Their glory shines for a few days
until blossoms die a drying death,
heads bent in wilted sigh.

I Saw Red

I saw red
my world
black and white,
its passion
along my soul,
my heartbeat
in the darkness
me alive
until color
to my days.

Your Kiss

I seek your kiss.
Lips that tell
me you are
not a dream.
I no longer
have to run
to my pillow
praying when
I close my eyes
you will appear.

I feel your breath
upon my cheek,
the warmth of
your skin,
my body speaking
 a vocabulary
I didn’t know I possessed.

Your voice touches
the strings of my heart
playing a love song
that will not end
when the sun
stirs me from my sleep.

I touch your skin
knowing you are real.
Today I embrace the morning.
I can dream with my eyes open.

Dance Speaks

Dance speaks
the poetry
I wish I could write,
bodies reciting verse
in exquisite movement.

Chiseled Lips

Madonna stands
in her stone garden silent,
marble hands in prayer,
my sins the beads of her rosary.
Forgiveness resting on a petition
coming from chiseled lips
that have no voice.

Valentine Dressed In Red

A valentine
dressed in red.
Her heart worn
on her sleeve,
denial impossible
confession painful.
I love you waiting
to be spoken,
rejection holding
its breath.

My Pen Grows Tired

Fingers you are silent.
Inspiration left without
a goodbye
taking poetry from me.
My pen grows tired
from the scribbles
that have a beginning
but no end.

Music Plants A Smile

Music Plants a Smile

Music makes
the spirit a lush garden,
planting a smile
in the soul
to grow hope
when life
takes you
through the desert
