"I am hearing poetry when awake, dreaming poetry when asleep, breathing poetry with each breath, I am living in a poem."

Lady Temptress of the Moon

Lady Temptress
 of the moon
winks with
diamond eye
inviting me
to join her
 in enchantment.

I speak my
poetry to her,
voice growing bold
in indigo night’s
 The verses
the seclusion
of my thoughts.

“Come love
before I lock
my heart and
hide the key.
Patience has
grown tired
of me.”

With a starlight smile
she gathered the
wind to blow
me a kiss
speaking you
are always welcome
to share your soul.
Just step out
into the night.
I will be here
To listen.

The Waltz of Insecurity

I danced a dark waltz
with my insecurities.
Rises and falls swept
me along in a romantic
attempt to seduce
my spirit to succumb
to doubt and lay
down my pen.

Hesitation held me
close whispering
In my ear,
“you are just not
 good enough.
Leave poems
to those who can write.”

Swaying, counting
the reasons I should
give up, I broke
doubt’s hold and
ended the dance.

There will always
be better poets.
I bow to their talent,
but poetry is my heart
written for others to read.
What does it matter
the size of my audience.

How Far

How far away
Is tomorrow?
I walk a path
of question marks
that today
could not answer.

She Played Love Letters

She played
love letters
on her violin
hoping her
Prince Charming
would come.

She didn’t
want to
be rescued.
She wanted
to be loved.

With frayed strings
she continued to play
evening upon evening,
her eyes becoming
more vacant,
time drowning
in her tears.

White hair flowing
one black night,
her bow fell
to the ground.
Eyes lifted to heaven
she spoke one word,

Melting into her sorrow
she gave one last breath.
Her quest for love
finally ended.

My Grief Sleeps With Me

My grief sleeps with me,
rustling the sheets to keep me awake.
There is no formula to say
when sorrow should not consume.

Tears are the sheep I count.
I toss and turn in my memories,
my hand reaching to touch your face
only to feel  air dancing on my fingertips.

If tomorrow I will hurt less,
then please end this night.
Even the moon outside my window
has hidden its face from me.

My Heart Crashed Against the Stars

My heart crashed
against the stars
when you
looked into
my eyes
and saw the
poetry written there

I am all smile and humor
to a world that doesn’t
care to look inside,
but you saw past my facade
into the sonnet I had
written with my tears.

Love had once come
whispering a promise
to leave telling a lie.
My heart became a recluse
penning lines of sorrow.

Can I trust the hope
that wants to erase
yesterday’s anguish?
You stand there
reading my verses
with your eyes asking
me to let you inside.

I am not made of stone
but of passion.
I want to love again.
I feel your heart wanting mine.
Tiny steps is all I can take,
I will take my first with you.

Still My Summer

Summer moon
smile for me.
The seasons
Of my life
would have
me in winter,
cold, frost
in my hair,
waiting for
a last sunset.

My spirit
does not
feel frozen.
It is nimble
as it dances
with dreams.
and I do
not fear it.

I hear the
long night
of summer
calling me
to come out
and play
with fireflies,
their tiny
lights flying stars.

I will not succumb
to thinking
my life is over.
Joy lifts me
as calendar
pages fall.
There is more
life for me to live.
The brass ring
still hangs on
I just need
to reach
out my hand.
This is still my summer!
