Memories In Winter Coats

I walked the garden
with its rows of
undressed rose bushes,
their  thorny limbs
pulling at my clothing.
I sought to find spring
in winter moonlight.
All I found were memories
wearing winter coats.

I love the words, and the metaphoric imagery of clothing used in this piece. Perfect photo chosen too. Beautiful, Susie.

Beautiful poem, Susie. Great line--the one Ginny points out. Great little poem! Love the picture, too! Nice post!

That is positively beautiful. I loved it; I wished I'd wrote it.

By the way, can you really remember all those things you commented about? You reminded me that, yes, I wore one of those P.O.W. bracelets too.

I love the naked roses pulling at your coat. A wonderful image and original use of personification!

New memories will be created after the snow melts. Store the old ones away in your heart for they make us what we are but take consolance in the fact that with new memories, we will continue to flower and grow :)

Very beautiful poem, Susie. I was anticipating something good, as the title alone is terrific. You've hinted that there is a potential for re-growth and renewal in the depth of winter, but that the winter stillness is so cold and complete, you couldn't find it!
