A rusted padlock hangs
between my breast and ribs,
a keyless ornament once
polished by fairytales.
Every glass slipper fits a fool
who thinks lips possess resurrection,
and happily ever after comes with a map.
Quixotic eyes can go blind,
but because it is my heart
guarding unforgiving, my vision
has perfect hindsight.
In my last days of sticks and bones
romance has reached its expiration date.
opinions are spoiled fruit; wisdom
sits alone watching reruns.

Things may just come to a head. Seemingly under control but situational impacts affect adversely on what appeared normal. Great ending Susie!

I'm most drawn to these lines.
I think that the padlocking can go both ways simultaneously, that helps with taking some of the hurt away. Hindsight in the present would be wonderful.
..
Put me in the category of fools, cause I luv me a good Cinderella story and that fairy Godmother, I must have one
luv your poem and the wisdom muse who companions you.
Thanks for dropping by to read mine Susie

These lines gave me a chuckle.
I like sardonic verse...don't think you can overdose on reality.
