My impatient shadow
races ahead of me.
In silence it paints
the sidewalk with
an ebony caricature
of the flesh it draws life from.
Wandering concrete that mars
my lawn with boundaries
I feel the touch of inky feline
at my ankles purring her way
into my sunlight silhouette.
Joined in communion
we become temporary art
waiting for wind and light
to turn us into a memory.
