Self-inflicted Wound

My lips know too well
the path of apology.

Error lays its stumbling blocks
word deep in my vocal chords,
and I spout what my thoughts
trip over before it passes
through editing.

Scrolling through excuses
will not open a door for forgiveness.
Honesty prods truth to forgo a lie.
Saying I am sorry may not be enough,
but failing you is my self-inflicted wound.

So true Susie....our wounds we cause to others and our lack of forgiveness....really hurts as just as much if not more....lovely writing as always. Thank you again for all your help on my blog. :-)

This is quite a powerful reflection, delving into the nuts and bolts of communication and relation. Excellent writing.

Susie, this resonates with me so strongly right now.......communication has its difficulties, sometimes truth creates more problems than it heals. I so know how the thought of failing is a self-inflicted wound. This is all I have been feeling, yet had no words to express.

Ouch, Susie. From your very first line to the last, this is so true.

The struggle to get the words right -- sometimes the least said the better. And that's why we have hugs.

Very true if we find excuses we wont reach any decision.

Those regrets where apologies can never really heal.. why don't we have that internal editor to prevent us from stumbling..

Yes, "I'm sorry but" is no apology. Your last two lines are powerful.
And sometimes we have to forgive ourselves before we can truly make amends. Achingly lovely write.
