Broken City Of Stones

A dust moon shines
its muddy glow on
the cardboard skyline
painting it shades of sepia.

From my vantage point
upon the roof I could
see everything and nothing
in the dismal tomb of lost dreams.

No matter how high
I climb toward the stars
gravity always pulls me back
to this broken city of stones.

Ah but you'll always get up and start climbing again, won't you?

Tomb of lost dreams!
Gravity!

A bleak vision, but the stones and cardboard give me hope of a literal breakthrough.

Susie, this really has movement and feeling to it, inexorable and deep. I love the dust moon and the cardboard sky, and the word 'sepia' just makes this whole poem gel. Really good stuff.

It's the getting up that counts.
And I love the cardboard skyline line.
