Stained Glass Jesus

Photograph ~ Joe Thorn

The
stained
 glass
window
colors
my skin
with Jesus.

I stand
crucified
by the
sunlight
not knowing
if a passing cloud
will be my salvation.

How do I know
if I have repented
of all my sins?

The list
 keeps
changing
as a new
score
keeper
scribbles
his opinion.

I should
 have stood
beneath
the angel’s
 window
and let
 the sunlight
give me wings.

This poem is full...filled with introspection and humility...the imagery of both windows, choices between crucifixion and heavenly flight, really touches me somewhere in my core. I love the physical form of this, too...perfect echo of the window and the cross.

Wow!
What an incredible opening poem for the windows theme, deeply existential and touches on a questions that may remain unanswered for a life time: What is the definition of sin? Who defines it for the individual?

This is beautifully expressed, Susie. You have asked important questions that I think many of us struggle with. And which scorekeeper should one listen to! What a wonderfully reflective windows poem!

This is piercingly beautiful, Susie. I echo Kerry's "wow," and for the same reasons. Such a work of art and true inner-expression here. Well done!

This is a wowzer of a poem. Unexpected, thought-provoking and beautifully written. Yes, go stand under the angel, and get some wings!

Nicely done--like how instead of looking out through the window, you looked inside through the window's colorful shadow.

This poem is so much more than just a "windows" poem. Thoughtful, reverent, and beautiful.

Very lovely Susie, I was specially struck with the question you raised:

How do I know if I have repented of all my sins?

I agree with Viv, much more than just a poem about windows. I like the layers of meaning and I vote for the angels myself!!

I had to laugh! SO much depends on our choice of windows. And then I sobered too, for the beauty of your spirit shines through. I like the skinniness of this poem, a beam of light falling through to me.
