It made me think of Hurricane Sandy and the devastation created by it. Burlap sandbags would have done no good...

Love the photo superimposed on the burlap...very affective.

right! argh, i hadn't thought of that use of burlap, though i grew up along a flooding stream. very nice, and i really like the image, Susie.

Chilling ... the tiny Illinois town I grew up in had a huge creek running through it ... I still remember the year it flooded and half of my town was under water. The sand bags were useless in that raging water mass.

Your poem is spare yet it hits with a punch.

burlap is such a keyword here. So very evocative despite it's fairly mundane meaning - not a very usual word these days, and the cloth could be seen to have other more metaphorical uses in the context. Enjoyed this one Susie
