The Haiku Challenge Day #7~Jewel of Hope

This is for my oldest daughter, Dawn. She is my hero. She battled auto immune disease for years. She was misdiagnosed numerous times with everything from Lupus to Wegener's Granulomatosis. In 2008 she was diagnosed with kidney cancer and lost her left kidney to the disease. Through all of her health battles she was able to shine. She received a Bachelor's degree in Political Science/Journalism and was the first non law student to be chosen as a Texas State Legislative Aide. Whenever I feel weak by adversity I think of her and all she has accomplished and continues to accomplish  and I know I have the strength to carry on.

This is Day 7 of 29 Haiku in 29 Days
Theme: Paint/Write your Imagination on an image

You know the term 'hero' is so often misused now but in your daughter's case it is not...a very moving poem. I think this is a good example of how haiku is probably the best way of expressing a very intense emotion, which you have managed to do very successfully.

Susie, my heart goes out to you as I know how moms suffer when their children do. I LOVE your poem - she truly is a diamond - a gem of hope. May she stay well. She has a wonderful mom seeing her through.
