Wisdom In Shoestrings

“I live my life a quarter mile at a time.”

     Fast and the Furious (2001)

There are a lot of miles in my shoes.
I’ve walked where I had to; walked
where I wanted to; and walked aimlessly
letting the sun plan my destination.

At times there was a lot of hurry
in my footprints, racing toward
while running away.

Experience brought wisdom,
eased my frantic, taught me
to see, to appreciate where I am
on the way to where I’m going.

I don’t know where the road
or sidewalk will end.
Today is what I’m given;
bless the shoestring stories
that hold memories, but
don’t tie me to where I’ve been.

Love this poem, Susie and the picture is perfect for the words. I feel strength and melancholy and hope.
