On every street routine punches its timeclock
until Mother Nature or human shreds time into heartbreak.
Idyllic holds its breath, swims minutes of peace
hoping the river of circumstances will not
breach its bank to usher in horror.
Each day hope holds on to its lifeline, counts blessings,
and evades asking if it has enough strength to survive
weather or the hell of men.
