Light in the Grave of Blooms

 Natural Woman ~ Susie Clevenger

Stars drop in glitter exclamations

among strands of braided auburn curls

as Antheia walks the grave of blooms.

Ignoring winter’s icy taunts, she dances

on the rotted breast of petals singing psalms

to sleeping spring of bright color soon to escape

the swaddling of dark roots.

With emerald brush she paints the blackened wool

of midnight’s scowl with swaths of green, and fills

her lungs with moonlight so every breath is seeded with a dream.

Antheia is the Greek goddess of flowers and flowery wreaths.

There are times when the only way to ease fear is to pour light into ink.

"rotted breast of petals singing" I love these words so much, Susie. They add power to closing note. It's so true, few things calm the chaos as inking them into something useful--especially when the 'something' in question is also beautiful, like in this case.

Lovely rich and sculpted piece, Susie - I especially liked this line: "every breath is seeded with a dream..." Brilliant!

You inspired so much beautiful poetry with your image!

I like the ideas sprouting in your poem. My favorite:
"bright color soon to escape
the swaddling of dark roots"

This piece is so rich and fulfilling to read—as a whole, and in singular lines. I am so eager to go back and reread.

This is a poem I would like to recommend to every person in the world—especially to those who think they don’t like poetry. Flawless, moving, deep, mystical, inspiring.

Beautifully written, especially the last stanza. I really like the almost-rhyme of green and dream.

Good Job, Susie!! Your flowering Antheia has a lovely has a nice mound of flowers out in the wilderness. She makes light of the "blackened wool of midnight’s scowl" and things progress in fine shape.
Thank you fore sharing your Digital Collage Art with us, the very last picture showing on the Pinterest that came us may be my favorite. You must have started early to have accomplished all these.
Also I like to see how the writer has come to mind with his or her prompt. You did not disappoint.

Glad to meet Antheia; hadn't made her acquaintance before. I enjoyed your description and also love what you say in your note about 'pouring light into ink'.

...petals singing psalms - lovely! And the last line - are both exquisite. I adore near rhyme (green and dream) and the storytelling quality of this poem.

How nice to cultivate some form of hope going by the mess that we are having now. Great visual creation Susie Ma'am!

I like the undercurrent of defiance here. She wills the beauty she desires into existence no matter what is going on around her.

Love how you weave color into your poem, just as in your artwork. Captivating!

"...the only way to ease fear is to pour light into ink." Okay, this is not officially part of your poem -- which is outstanding, by the way! -- but it's the piece I'm absconding with. A germ of enchantment to spark some madness.

I'll let you know....

Great image; great writing.
