The Wooing

Red Amaryllis 1937 ~ Georgia O'Keeffe

If I am to have hope of blooming, I must walk carefully where flowers sleep.

Amaryllis sleep in the dry womb of winter
dreaming of spring’s warmth.

Deep in the icy clutch of forgotten
roots woo twilight to send the moon
to flirt with fickle blooms in waiting.

A garden pulses with resurrection
beneath booted feet oblivious
to the beauty buried beneath gravel.

... My goodness this is enchanting!💝 I so love the idea of 'forgotten roots' wooing twilight, it feels like a sweet spot located between darkness and light where anything is possible. Thank you so much for writing to the prompt, Susie. Love it!😍😍

So beautiful. I especially like the hidden beauty waiting to be resurrected underneath the booted feet.
Just lovely. The last verse in particular makes me go all ecstatic, for both the idea and the expression.

I’m stunned by the gorgeous opening line, Susie, and love the alliteration and imagery in the lines:
‘Amaryllis sleep in the dry womb of winter
dreaming of spring’s warmth.’
My garden is currently pulsing so loudly with resurrection it’s waking me in the early hours of the morning!

Beauty buried beneath gravel .... gives us hope.
We never really know what's hidden beneath our feet. Treading gently through this world is the only way to go.
