My Spot of Moon

How many stars shine
on the dark side of the moon?

I place my palm against
December’s window and wish
it was dear Luna’s cheek.

She lives melancholy she can’t elude,
but faithfully keeps her face toward
the sun collecting light so I can find
my way through the river of shadows.

Selfish me knows I’m no better than spring
who must wait for Luna to bring her candle
to a nursery of sleeping daffodils...
yet in this spot of night I own the light that cradles me.

“for Luna to bring her candle

What a gorgeous image and description! My eyes went twitchy and read “daffodils” as “dolls” at first, so I’m totally picturing a nursery of daffodil dolls now, something like Cabbage Patch Kids, I suppose. :)

P.S. I adore the accompanying artwork.

"so I can find
my way through the river of shadows." I can see the moon as a dear and never failing friend here. Very moving lines.
I love the image of the moon as a collector of light. Some things are meant to be collected. Light is one of them.

I do love the line Margaret quoted. There is something extra magical about the imagery there, about seeing and feeling spring sleeping under winter's blanket (or, through his window) before she sprouts back to life.
Gorgeous writing! The moon is magical and you capture that so beautifully here--so great to read your work again!
I know that feeling, of both being cradled by and owning the moonlight.

As I just said to someone else, several of us seem to have been moon-inspired lately.
