The Bloom and Weed of It

the dogwood speaks spring
to trees still dressed in mourning
green waits beneath ash

dandelions grow
where poison kills wildflowers
defiant nature

royal lilacs bloom
matriarch of a garden
bold in its neglect

From now on, I shall never see a dogwood tree (especially in early spring) without thinking of you. In the past, I've always looked at their first blooms... so bright next to bare branches, and thought, There they are, showing off again. But I like your perspective much better: the dogwoods just spring early, while the rest still winter-mourn.

Dandelions are the Deadpool of flowers!

How I love the third line of the last poem. I think it would make a fantastic prompt, too. I would love to read what writers would come up with, to illustrate something that is "bold in its neglect".

Beautiful write, broken into three. So symbolic at this time. The scared three. Nice prompt.

I'm sorry, I made a mistake about the prompt.

Lovely all❣️Wonderful (to me) how strong dandelions are 😊and I’d like it if more of my plants survived through gentle neglect LOL
I like the matriarch of the neglected garden best. All lovely.

Haikulicious, SC. Well done
As always, you pack so much meaning into so few words! Lovely photos, and I very much liked what you said. I've always been very partial to dandelions, and I love me a rebellious attitude, so that one's my favourite.

I love the range of flowers you chose to write about, Susie. I love the little white flowers of the dogwood and the bright colour of dandelions – and lilacs are definitely matriarchal!
Love the flower choice, but the dandelions really got me. A wise weed.
