Mutatio

Frost comes without invitation
to strip butterfly wings from marigolds’
defiant orange resistance to change.

…Seasons can be cruel…

I collect my journals of dead things,
faded ink spills of pedestal-ed heartbreak,
and poem a match to burn winter from me.

Fantastic, Susie! Loved it.
I love it all – and particularly that last line. It sizzles like the match striking.
Piogant yet brave to let go of things and emotions.

a poem being a match... I SO love that.

What I have enjoyed the most in these puente poems is the way the second half develops the initial idea to most unexpected ends.. none so much as in your poem, Susie. The finale is brilliant.

Wow, these images!
Burn winter from you... stay warm! I love pedestal-ed heartbreak in particular, and journals of dead things... I guess I have one of those, too. :)

Winter brings sadness and death. Some things need burning. We have ashes of two dogs and a cat which we've not disposed. Someday will come.
..
Excellent images in this, Susie!

Love the idea of poetry warming driving away the chill of winter... And the image of a journal of dead things is just so powerful.
