I Am the Penny

"Girl on the Boat"   by William Oxer

I am the penny
for your thoughts,
an insignificant beggar
asking to enter
your dreams.

I watch the summer day
drift through your eyes
on blue waves, and wonder
if it is rescue you seek
or to sail the dark side
of the moon.

Curiosity is a hungry bird
nested on my tongue…
Forgive me for begging
entrance into your silence.

Oh my goodness this is so good. The last stanza is so haunting. Or to sail to the dark side of the moon...I had a liver like that once, on my youth. Thank you so much for posting this glorious poem to my prompt.

wow, as usual, word tight and perfect for the images you draw Susie ~ I am so struck for the second stanza in particular, but as a whole, well, this just tells an incredible story, from start to finish ~ and I'm enamored to be a part of the narrative, as witness, yet it feels as if I am "too" present - exceptional.

I especially love the last stanza which to me could see as the process of filling the voids of each other.
