Beckon

Spirits weary of gray skies
pull their curtains at sunrise
hoping the wool will be pried
from fists of cold enterprise.

Somewhere on a robin’s wing
there must be feathers of spring
strong enough to break the strings
that bind us to mourning’s ring.

Wildflowers bloom their welcome
in greening fields to beckon
winter to cease rebellion
of bare trees and ice bedlam.

Ohhh... don't be so hard on yourself, Susie, I really like this. Especially "mourning's ring." Gosh that is beautiful. Spring, spring... we're getting another snowstorm coming right up!
This form IS really difficult. So hard to make those tight rhymes not sound trite. Yikes!
Good job with it, and sending love always xo
This is beautifully written! I haven't been to your page for a while and love these changes here--
Such an original penning. I especially like "hoping the wool will be pried
from fists of cold enterprise..."

Susie, I like the skimming of human ails as ripe for lessons from Mom Nature's predictably. Of course we have zillions of areas faulted. Fine on the rhyme too.
..
This is such a soft, lovely whisper of a longing for spring....I too am longing for the icy shroud to leave, but we are due for another storm this week....sigh.

this echo's my present feelings... bring on spring in all its glory...:)
This makes me hope that Spring comes soon – both literally and metaphorically – in the poem, at least. (In real life I am happy that autumn is arriving.)
