Stop Dressing In Old Dirt

I troll inward thoughts
trying to find excuses,
but the mountain rumbles
from the constant rain.

It’s tough to carry the weight
of years cursing a mirror
for my own reflection.

There’s only so many tears
a soul can carry when want
trumps need into selfish.

Don’t Sweat It..Forget It
looks easy on a bumper sticker.
Anger, fat with time feeding,
is a blame addict.

It’s a slippery climb to rise
above the low that fits
like a favorite shirt.
I need to unpack the old year,
do the laundry, and stop
dressing in old dirt.

I've lived this at times, but I've certainly seen other people living the blame game until their new is nothing more than a rerun of their old. Letting go is not easy. Do the work for freedom.

Susie, you really packed a punch coming in late and all...and i loved the title and the whole sentiment. Also noteworthy is the song you chose..."some people got real problems." You seamlessly fit the list words into your piece. Many people need to hear this message; me included. Thanks for linking up.

Ain't that the truth?
This was inspiring in a way that really spoke to me. Thanks, Old Shirt Wearer, Mosk

Not a fan of the phrase "blame game." I heard a guy on the news this morning using what seems to be the latest faddy phrase, "drilling down." Anyway, they do say that carrying yesterday's crap around with you makes for a shitty today. Sometimes, though, that stuff is super glued on. There's a fair amount of pain involved in shedding it. But you know all that. Ignore me, I ramble.

Wow. That is fantastic. And I really love the paragraph that follows the poem. Really spot on.

I want to unpack the old year, as far as politics goes, and toss it in the garbage. Thankfully there were good things too, all of them outdoors in Mother Nature.
