Dust

I watch dust dance in the sunlight,
uncaring, oblivious to where it will land.
It floats a notepad skim across my desk,
and like a child I write my name,
an impish autograph unintimidated by legacy.

I like the last line a lot. A person shouldn't be concerned with legacy...

Nice writing, Susie. I love to write 'childlike' where writing isn't expected. I remember when we children would find a fairly large tract of unused snow. Them we would make a goose trail of our names or other writings. Mostly though we would play a new game of "Fox and Goose" as that was our favorite recess activity. “Anti-I-Over” when there wasn't snow. Google that.

I love watching dust dance in the sunlight and still can't resist writing in it. Love this poem, Susie, especially the lines:
'It floats a notepad skim across my desk,
and like a child I write my name,
an impish autograph unintimidated by legacy'.

Always nice to indulge the impish child within, if only for a moment.

The dust is a fine place to begin one's poetry - isn't it all dust to dust in the end?

I think you have caught the way we can write... letting the dust fall where it wants
You really made me smile with this one, Susie!
