Dance Until the Wind Stops

“How can we know the dancer from the dance?” ~ William Butler Yeats

I fingerpaint cracked plaster
with yesterdays’ broken hearts
thinking one more drop of blood
won’t splinter my tears.

dance until the wind stops
dance until the clock spins unwound
dance until lonely doesn’t wear heels

The dry ink of lists wallpapers hours.
Tomorrow is a thief stealing starlight
from Tuesday while I plant worry.

dance while the butterfly still enchants
dance while dreams still have names
dance while your lungs still remember to breathe

Love that happiness here... to dance while dreams still have names.. I love that desperately.

The song and the poem vibe well in each other, or as Yeats put it, the dancer and the dance. We know this groove in the soul, the absence of heaven it will not let go of. The defiance of swinging from the chandelier, the art of making it. Amen.

I love these lines:
"dance until lonely doesn’t wear heels
The dry ink of lists wallpaper’s hours."

And the last stanza.

Really brought to life the idea of dancing for your life. Because when the things you listed end, life is a sad pale thing indeed.

Your poem reminds me of Hans Christian Andersen's tale, The Red Shoes, where dancing was both pleasure and pain.
Beautiful, unexpected images. Thanks, Mosk

Pow! And the plaster won't last under the bloody hearts, or over them. Rich imagery here as the dance goes on. Made me think of the Buffy Ste Marie song "I'm a horse on a carousel, plaster mask but who can tell . . .

Right, what's the alternative? Escape, dance, keep dancing. Nice, Susie.

I feel the repetitive rhythm ... it works perfectly, echos her lyrics. Love this, Susie!
