Chewed Ice of Your Skin

I chewed through the ice
of your skin only to find
I can never be warm
in your delusions.

You sing of fate as if
random was the lying
stepchild of inevitable.

We are not “meant to be.”

The scent of sex is our
only connection... lonely,
breast feeding on available
until our spines can support
the weight of leaving.

Drink more wine to sweeten goodbye.

We are two ships crashed
upon concrete who will
never find enough moonlight
to fill our sails.

Let the exit door be your epiphany.

Epiphany to sex, to life, the sweetness of the wine. What an excellent way to describe it.

What a great last line. I can hear that door whisk open and hopefully close. A masterpiece of bitter x-love poem. K.

First, the title gives me the shivers (icy) ~

I like the imagery of two ships crashed upon concrete wall ~ That exit door can be bittersweet ~

Thanks for participating in Sunday's Challenge and wishing you happy week ~

Wowzers! You are on fire! That closing line is killer, and there are too many fantastic lines to quote. You ka-powed this one right out of the park.

Beautiful ending Susie! Was it to dampen his spirits or to give him a choice without much leeway. Such an open-ended conclusion that lingered on made for a good poem!
