Pickled Thoughts Without Fins

Salar de Uyuni photo: Salar de Uyuni ocuyuni.jpg

I ice skate
on a salt mirror
chasing clouds

while drops
of blue sky splash
my ankles with summer.

Lost in the mirage
of pickled thoughts
without fins I skim

the briney surface wishing
I could dive into its glass reflection
to swim through the yellow sun.

I am not sure if you meant skim or swim in the third para.

You have really channeled this picture in your words, and I love the way you chose your vocab so specifically to reflect the image.

Beautiful write, Susie. The first stanza reminded me of skating on frozen ponds when I was a youngster.

"Lost in the mirage of pickled thoughts without fins I swim..." Damn, Susie, you have such a way with this. You have matched the image with an equally enigmatic poem. Good on you! Amy

I so love the idea of drops of blue sky splashing your ankles with summer. Wow! Also the pickled thoughts without fins - brilliant! Your mind has not succumbed to heat as mine has :)

Swimming, like flying both so freeing and your poem definitely carries that flowing graceful tone, Susie. Thank you for writing!

Beautiful glide to this, Susie, and some striking phrases already quoted that match the photo in intensity. It would be a fine place to cloud skate, if you ask me.
I guess I am not alone on the imagery of
"Lost in the mirage
of pickled thoughts"

A wonderful post.
Thank you.

Fantastic title and the poem carries equal weight. Like Kerry, most impressed with your word choices, how you interpret the image. Love what you do.
