Insomnia's Sea

We pass each other
in the night…
two ships on
insomnia’s sea
seeking the same
illusive horizon.

Silence is the swells
that batter us…..
but neither
will calm the waves
with repentance.

We wander bottled
in our pain and anger
letting it ferment into
sleepless hours driving
us further from absolution.

Good analogy! I have seen it right ere!
Been there, tried that, didn't work for me either. The lesson of 40 years- talk it out.

I could use a glass of wine after that.

Nice for me this morning, Susie. ~~ I got up for my mid-night venture at 4:40 AM today and couldn't get back to sleep.

Mrs. Jim awoke (I didn't awaken her) at 5:10. Neither of us could get back to sleep. Our ships sailed together sending loudspeaker and semaphore signals back and forth until 6:00 when I turned the news on.

We got up at 6:30 theatening to take a nap in the harbor this afternoon. Pretty much we've sailed together for 40 years now.
Wow!!!

You have captured that very human question: How does one let anger go? Awful that it can disturb sleep and life in general. You put this across so very well in your poem.

I know an insominac. reads far more poetic here than the reality. appreciate the power to create something beautiful out of something that isn't.

Very true Susie! In fact it can be so damaging as it wears us off! Others might not even realize it. That makes it worst! Nicely!

pride, hurt, fear... oh really, how much easier a hand reached out... but no. Sometimes I think people like to be miserable.

Sad poem - very well done.

@J Cosmo Newberry, Yes, it is too familiar at times
@Susan, thanks!
@Grandmother, my husband and I have made it 43 years by talking it out. :)

@Timoteo, I need a glass after writing it. :)
@Jim, sounds like you and your wife have sailed life's sea well together.

@Aprille, yes it is a bit dark. Unfortunately with both of my daughters getting divorced within six months of one another I have heard and seen the dark side of marriage.
@Grace, thank you
@Laura, it was sad writing it

@Hank, thank you!
@Margaret, I know people who live miserable and seem to not want it any other way. Thank you!

We wander around our house in dog-driven insomnia. She tries to wake me up, I ignore her, so she wakes my husband up, and that wakes me up.
Not a tragedy, but there's a lot of yawning going on around here in the evening when we try to watch TV together. We try to keep the dog awake, so she'll sleep through the night, but to no avail.
Yours is a sad but beautiful poem, Susie. Sorry if my response sounds trivial. After years of sleep disorders I know no kind of insomnia is good.

Susie, this packed a punch for me. Insomnia is hell, but you gave it such a reason and a face. I've been there too many times... but not for reason of disagreement with Lex. Now, my FORMER husband... but that's an old one, you've heard it before, hee hee Amy

@Kay, I suffer from insomnia. I have my whole life. The poem came from the few arguments my husband and I have had that kept us awake. So thankful that has been a rare reason for my insomnia. Thanks for sharing your reason with me...four paws. :)
@Sharp Little Pencil, thank you!
