Alphabet Wings

I seek freedom
in words ---
They are alphabet wings
that allow me to soar
above the confines
of silence.

They are my
pen and paper voice
to reach the world
beyond my window.

When my lips
are censored
I break edit’s hold
with my muse’s pen.

I can cry on paper
when I won’t
shed a tear,
speak of love
with a vocabulary
no one knows I possess.

I can write of injustice
that is heard by a reader’s ear.
I can rail in anger, sing in sonnets,
play at rhyme.

I am a writer, a poet, a dreamer
who flies with the wings of letters
through a garden watered with ink.

How well you have described the freedom of self-expression that is the writer's best kept secret: it takes us places no one else knows about. I especially liked the reference to the wings - makes me think of your butterflies.

Alphabet wings.... wonderful imagery.
Yes, words do give we writers so much freedom of expression which we may well not enjoy so much spoken aloud.
Lovely writing Susie.

Susie, Susie, Susie, how I love visiting your space, always makes me feel good when I leave, you have such great insight. I am quite sure that every toad can so identify with this one, it is like the calling card of the sometimes lonely poet....expressions set forth into the universe sometimes only to be received by ourselves. Thats why I love sites like this because we share this common bond...and I love that. Yep.

I think about words all the time. Do you suppose that is the fate of all poets? That we obsess on grammar? That we joy in breaking rules and in knowing that we do so? That we plant our tales in "a garden watered with ink"?

I love, love these words, this message, this poem!
