I Wish I Could Fly

I wish I could fly
right off this train,
The coal, steam
and rails are making
noise, but going
at a snail’s pace.

I wish I could fly
beyond the hills
that seem to be
in the same spot
they were a
hundred miles a go.

I wish I could fly
past the noise
of crying babies,
snoring men
and mama’s complaints
of a corset too tight.

I wish I could fly
where there
was green grass
to wiggle my toes in,
trees to climb,
and penny candy to eat.

I wish I could fly
just where I
need to be
so I wouldn’t
have to ask
one more time,
“Are we there yet?”

Well, this is a very clever poem! There were 4 poems written for the challenge that totally speak my soul - yours is one of them. Thanks for writing Susie. I so appreciate what you do with words here.

Kisses. :)

How interesting to have an angel wishing she could fly. I really enjoyed listening to your voice. This is something I have been wanting to add to my own blog for so long, but I have never found a site which can produce the widget for me... I'd appreciate some tips from you.

Thanks Kerry, In my head it was a little girl bored and she was dreaming what she would do if she had wings.

Susie -- you captured the essence of a child anxious to get to the destiny to explore and her imagination while the miles "clacked on" ... I enjoyed listening to you read it as well ... giving it another dimension. Thank you for sharing. Happy Tuesday!
