Frostbite Flirtation

winter wears its ice
harsh as windblown grains of sand
a frozen sweater

quickly by the moon
it cloaks its peaks in crystals
feet buried in snow

its february
a flirtation with frostbite
determined commitment

Real Toad's Kenia issued this Challenge:
Write a poem that keeps a dialogue with another poem, poet.
I chose Mama Zen's poem: Flirtation

Mine is the negative to her positive take on February snow. We all have those people. No matter how grand something looks to us there is that person who will rain on our parade.

Yes, there is always someone like that...my mother is their Queen!

I liked the "flirtation with frostbite"!

What a cool response to MZ's poem ~

I do like the last verse ~ February is a flirty month this year ~

I enjoyed your negative to Mama Zen's positive. There are always two sides to a coin. At this point I am on the 'positive' side, as I cannot remember such an unwinterlike winter here in my lifetime!

I like the determination of the commitment here.

Yes, this is a good dialogue with MZ's poem, (though I think there was a negative there too,) that under the icy visual beauty there was a melting away, a lack of committment. But you really capture another side of winter, that the freezeout and the frostbite actually were the commitment from the start. Really a good take on a difficult prompt.

Yeah...great point in this one...the only thing worse than winter in febrruary is when it extends to March and April....are you kidding me? Another snowstorm? Great take on the challenge, great poem.
