Empty Chairs

This is supposed to be my field of dreams,
brown grass filled with empty chairs?
I pour words through the funnel of my soul
praying someone will hear me;
will understand my poet’s spirit exhaling poetry.
My words go unopened, unread,
a black alphabet speaking in muted voice.

Hopelessness taunts from the shadows,
but I won’t succumb.
I cling to my drowning dream.
Surely someone will come sit among my poems,
feel the words that my muse has birthed from me.
The universe is too vast for my verses
to not break through the silence.

Oh, I feel those words! Great opening line, really like the use of 'field of dreams' Kudos!
As long as you're still dreaming it, it's not drowning. I really like how you have drawn us all into these thoughts; thoughts we all have of expressing, sharing, and being shared...

Almost unbearably sad, and the black alphabet is an outstanding poetic phrase.

With poems like this one, you will be read! But we all share that question of whether we are being acknowledged.

A poet's hope for sure. I love your words, Susie. Nicely penned.
