Fairy Child

Laughter echoes through the woods
A girl more fairy than human
Plays peek a boo with sunbeams
That escape the leafed umbrella
Hanging above the pixie’s head

Tossing civilized trappings she
Roams the woodlands half dressed
In an unlikely parade of beast and child
As animals follow without fear

Splashing steps take her through streams
Sparkling with sunlit droplets
Her face alight in joyful admiration
Of Mother Nature’s living room

Hours spent in daydream adventure
Where imagination turns trees into bark clad knights
Standing guard over a tiny princess
With a twig as magic scepter that with a flick
Can turn leaves into a diamond carpet

Her days would be spent forever outdoors
If not for the calls sent on the wind to return home
Like a bird in a cage seeking to be set free
She waits for daybreak to fly once again
Into the forest she loves
