Petals

Sunday's Challenge at Real Toads is to use the beautiful photography of Laura Hegfield as our inspiration to write a poem. I thank Laura for her generosity and sharing a part of herself with us.

The petals
drank secrets
from her palm.

The future spoke
in crisscrossing
life lines.

But she
was content
to not know her future.

She held the flower
 until it wilted,
 then scattered
the unknown with a wish.

... content not to know her future..
Perhaps the best way to be. This poem sits in the palm as perfectly as the flower.

she sounds like a good provider, not tearing off petals like 'he-loves-me, he-loves-me not.' this is counter to the tradition and feels so wise.
