I’m trying to run a marathon
without taking a step.
I want the win
without walking
through the pain.

There’s a lot of wrong
in failure, a lot of tears
in success.

Freedom takes endurance
when chains whisper,
“We’re your only escape.”

Night terrors taunt
with the length of the race.
while faith speaks winning
comes one step at a time.

I remember when I was in therapy years ago, the psychiatrist saying, "Just keep putting one foot after the other, and after a while, if you look over your shoulder, you'll see you've travelled quite a distance."

I can relate to this on so many levels, Susie.

There's a lot of truth in this poem, Susie:
'There’s a lot of wrong
in failure, a lot of tears
in success'.

This is incredibly potent, Susie. Especially like; Freedom takes endurance when chains whisper,“We’re your only escape.”

Been thinking about that one step at a time. A good reminder, thank you, Susie.

And once you understand THAT, you know you can do anything you set your mind to.

well probed out - this poem starts and sweeps us in - how true to want to "run it" but only if there is no pain (which never happens) - but I loved the 3rd stanza - chains whispering - so dramatic ...

Oh, such wisdom in this poem, Susie. One step at a time, indeed.
