On The Edge

The moon teeters on the edge of my roof
like a precocious child planning her escape.
Plump with stars and night she finger paints
shadows across my bedroom wall and ignores
my pleas to stay until sunlight chews through my curtains.

We are enemies, friends, a song and dance team
on a revolving stage…She won’t stay…I won’t forgive her absence.

vivid fingerpainting! I like the semi-discontinuity between the stanzas - makes the reader sit up and take even more noticde

The moon I think is one of the most ambiguous of poetic images(probably why she is able to inspire so many poets and poems)--here she seems both playful and spiteful, teasing, ultimately unsatisfying and perhaps, ultimately, a flicker only of something in our own minds--really an interesting take, Susie.

Ah, best of frenemies with that moon, who tends to tease and disappoint!

This so lyrical - a tribute to a lifelong connection to the moon.

This is awesome. Completely captivating work.
Love the images in this poem, Susie, particularly 'pumps with stars' and sunlight chewing curtains.'
