The Cry From Broken Glass

We’re not one bullet
closer to safe.
It doesn’t matter
how much you polish
bigotry with apple pie,
hate always leaves
a blood stain.

Peace cries from the other
side of broken glass,
“Hope will die from your apathy.”

Love is
words and arms
that lift when spirits
struggle to rise
above desperation.

Susie your work continues to mature and deepen--this is painful to read, because of its honesty, and the truth it tells about us as a failed society....where is the road up, one wonders, out of this swamp of mindless violence, hate and fear? Only in our own hearts, I suppose. Thanks for this very skillful and thoughtful 55.

Yes. Agree with Joy. It really is a very apt and poignant poem. Thanks. K.
I echo Joy's and Karin's remarks. Painful, apt, and well crafted.

The opening line really draws in current events - and the rest embracing history repeating itself... ? Sigh...

And there is so much desperation in this world. Ouch!
