Change of Heart

They want to glue me to their view;
paste me as cooperative so there
won’t be any discord from different.

My eyes once held the glint of absolutes.
I recognize the self-righteous stare and
voices echoing in scriptured tongues.

Life has cut the artery of my judgment
and I bleed grief from my spirit
at the depths of my rejection.

I can’t choose another’s path so I won’t
surrender my shoes to the footfalls of another.
The greatest commandment is to love.

I struggle…I’m incomplete…I am learning.

I suspect that last line applies to many, many of us.

The less they know, the surer they are, but when it is family it hurts. Believe me, I know.

It is sometimes hard these days to maintain one's own point of view, when bombarded by media telling us what to think and believe and say. I commend you strong voice in this poem.

Oh this resonates, Susie.......I love "I wont surrender my shoes to the footfalls of another." There is such pressure to knuckle under, it takes strength to hold onto our own path. Good one, Susie.

Honestly learning and being open to changed view is such a gift, an evolution. Too many people are closed. Be strong, sister. xo

You can only be true to your own experiences and what they teach you. I admire you in this.
