Buttoned With Tears

The gray day hangs
its wet sweater
on me and I
button it with tears.

Why does optimism
beg me to drink
from a cup it never fills?

Goodbye chases me
into a corner where
I plead to hear hello.

Another day of grief…
Another river to cross…
Where is the rainbow?

Oh dear. So sorry. I think of those translucent sort of pale buttons--very sad. Thanks, Susie. k.
Grief and a rainbow -something of a theme today, with some of us.

This is true and piercing. My condolences for your loss.

So sad to lose your cousin, Susie. I am struck by the image of the grey day hanging a sweater on you, that you button with tears. Beautiful. Where is the rainbow, indeed?

Susie, I am so sorry for your loss of your cousin. Cousins are special. There are nine of us "H" ones, one has died, one has been in a nursing home for a long, long time.
Remember, Susie, that rainbow will come, Mother Nature's law, it has to. I will pray for yours to come soon, very soon.

A cousin is our best friend also and when we lose a cousin we lose a friend also, your poem is deeply entrenched in pain. may there be peace.

Oh this is so sad.. I like the way you describe the grey weather as a sweater.. and the wish to say hello and not goodbye.. so very very strong.
