Wisteria Roots

We kissed beneath
the wisteria where
ghosts hung from boughs.

In the scented rustle
of decades we tied
our future to the past.

Standing in the shade
of generations our vows
echoed those spoken before.

Our love vined itself to roots
that knew how to thrive even when
drought brought the choking dust of division.

Yes, especially in a place where a lot of history has happened, they really evoke a timeless sentiment.

Each stanza has a stand-alone feel, very much like Japanese poetry forms. The whole creates a wonderful sense of past and present tied to the perennial wisteria.

Great analogy, Susie, and the mood is so pensive and rich--the continuity of flower and vine, love and loyalty, all twining together in your metaphor.

This is poignant, Susie. I love this :

"Our love vined itself to roots that knew how to thrive even when
drought brought the choking dust of division."

Thank you for joining, Susie!!
