Become The Light

Maybe you wish
to dream away
the pain the world
has brought you…

Lie in a bed
of forgetting
praying time
could be rewound…

The sun will rise
even in darkness…

When night overwhelms
become the light…

Many who love you
are there to lift you up,
but only you can stand.

You write a wonderful truth, Susie. No one else can do our standing. Hold our hand, yes.

:)Hope will always be there to pick us up and we need to find it in our soul.

even on days when physically standing is not possible... we can take a stance in how we wish to live our lives... from the heart. So beautiful Susie, so true.

Excellent sentiments, beautifully put.
I Love the very last stanza! it's so very true. Amazing how there is so much light and yet we cling to the darkness, willing or not.

"Become the Light" is simply beautiful. It's images speak to me--the bed of forgetting, being lifted vs. standing, become the Light in the darkness. Wow. It belongs near the St. Francis prayer I carry with me.

I immediately understood the deep depression and the loving concern of those connected. Becoming the light, being the light, acknowledging that one is the light is the only path up.

The second stanza reminds me of times in my life when I just didn't want to get up, dare I say didn't want to wake up?
There is much pain and much wisdom here, Susie.

PS, I checked my "comment spam" as Kerry suggested. I didn't even know I had comment spam. But you're not there. Most mysterious.

i really like the truth you write. there's a place for a caring community but nothing can replace self motivation. or maybe it's as simple as life carries on, and as tragic as it is for so many people, we must be on board to some extent to live life, make a difference and count.
People will only help you, no one can live your life for you. The last two lines are inspiring.

Susie, I wonder if I already have a comment awaiting moderation. Old and forgetful I am. Of course everything here that you say is so right. But the nicest part about it is that you have done so with kindness.

This is so true, Susie. No matter how much support we may have from others, there are trials in life we have to face on our own steam. Not easy to do.

A quote I like is "We are all in this together, alone." People can love us, help us, guide us but when it really comes down to it you are the only one there under your skin.
Your poem is so right on and beautifully done.

Become the light. This is so easy for some people and I often think they have far more "woe" than me and yet I complain, complain. It is a choice , a habit, a conscious effort - especially at first. Beautiful poem

Maybe I should rewrite it!

I still want to write a new one to your prompt.

Your poem is so true-I have caught myself lingering in the dark~

Powerful words. The real truth that we must take ownership of our strength to stand, no one else can do it for us. The last stanza zinged me right between the eyes, I loved it. Great writing.

An great perception. We are our own best hope and source of light. Very fine job.
Wonderful piece! So true, no matter how much support others may give us, it is up to us to make the final stand.

Wow! I am... Speechless! Without going into too much personal crap, this really hit the spot. Beautiful words, lovely rhythm and simply just correctly balanced. Thank you so much!

This is a wonderful message!
Susie, your last stanza is the best advice, because it takes one's own effort as well as a loved one's to pick up and start again. This is just plain common sense, set to a lovely flow... Amy

Yes, yes. "Only you can stand." I have experienced this myself recently after a serious illness - many helped me and prayed for me, but only I could choose to heal, in the end. Thank you for sharing!
