Well Traveled Patchwork

I Follow the Wind by Judith Clay
Painting ~ "I Follow the Wind" by Judith Clay

I
pedal
through fairytales
watching the cards
fall not knowing if
a house will seek my
head to fall upon or fortune
will turn its weary pinwheel into luck.
The well-traveled road of patch work dreams
rattles through my misplaced thoughts breaking childhood into reality.

Hedgewitch at Real Toads had us writing Fibonnaci poems. Mine isn't true to the definition. I did a word count and ended up with ten lines. At dverse Poets Pub Claudia offered the artistic works of Judith Clay as inspiration to write.

the well traveled road of patchwork dreams....we dont all know our fates, only that the cards will fall...and hopefully not the house on our heads....pedalling hard does no use though, it catches up to all of us...smiles.

Susie, I think this is a vivid blended example of form and free verse merged--you've elements of each in it--some syllable counting, some word counting, and some free work with lines and combinations, and they make a very effective whole. The challenge in my mind is so much more about being led to write a poem than being led by the nose by a form, so thanks so much for feeling free to experiment and be creative. I love the line about fortune's weary pinwheel, as well as the one Brian quoted.

Not all fairy tales end up happily ever after but hopefully some will wheel us into luck ~

Lovely work on the form ~

this reminded me of the fortune wheel in the basel münster entrance... sometimes good luck, sometimes these card houses fall on us...i think it's always worth taking the risk... cool work on both, the form and painting interpretion

I chose the same picture - loved your fib..don't care about the strictness - like the bicycle in the picture, it carried you where you needed to go. Well done.

Well, the vote is pretty much unanimous, Susie, your "well-traveled road of patch work dreams" is super! And I agree with Hedge, you have written the poem you were inspired to write, not one dictated by form. That is usually what it means to be a poet.

really like the road of patchwork dreams..and hopefully, those pinwheels will bring luck..keep your eye on the sky so you can duck if a house of cards comes falling down.

I really like this, Susie!
Loved the road, and I would imagine it slightly bumpy on that particular bicycle, as befits life. The cards seemed like omens, or perhaps dreams yet to be realized. I was focused on the Judith Clay side along with the Whirl. Great job, Susie! Peace, Amy

I love "turn that weary pinwheel into luck" - I need some of that too, kiddo. Let us hope. I love the voice in this poem, it has a note of wearyness I so resonate with. Love the "patchwork dreams" especially. Best kind.
