Midnight Noon

A midnight noon
tore the world
outside our windows
into shredded lives.

Glued to your heartbeat
two little girls and I
watched your eyes
for the first sign of a rainbow.

Mama Zen challenged us at Real Toads with these words, "Imagine yourself in
the safest place you've ever known. Let yourself sink into the details. Feel the texture, the temperature. See the angle of the light. Breathe Deep...and tell me about it in 53 words or less."

My family experienced our first hurricane after moving to Texas, Alicia, in 1983. In the midst of that horrific storm my husband, Charlie, was the rock that made us feel safe.

Glad you gave the explanation: on the second read it fell into place and I saw its full beauty. So much in so few lines.

My heart is beating faster just thinking about living through this experience! Love the idea of looking for rainbows in another's eyes.

Beautiful! where else you would find one?

Midnight noon - that conveys so much in 2 words. Thankfully even hurricanes must come to an end and rainbows do return.

Can definitely relate to this after our recent weather--we need that rock most at times when the world is so frighteningly malleable and out of control...'midnight noon,' and also 'glued to your heartbeat' do so much to make this real, Susie.

@Robyn, we have had several scary hurricane moments living in the Gulf Coast of Texas.
@Hannah, Than you
@Akila Thank you. Yes, where else? :)
@Kerry, thank you.

@hedgewitch, I have thought of you several times with all the bad weather Oklahoma has been having. My youngest daughter lives in Tulsa. Thank you so much for your kind words.

Hurricanes are terrifying! Your Charlie sounds amazing ... we survived direct hits from Charley, Francis and Jeanne in Orlando, 2004!

Oh this is so wonderful. I love to hear about families like this! Sigh. Wonderful to have your protector Charlie by your side all these years.

"Glued to your heartbeat" — warm, strong arms that can still the fear — what a treasure to have in times of terrible trouble!
