NaPoWriMo 2013 Day Four ~ Swimming In Holy Water

Yeah, I’m living life
in a beer can baptizing
my self-worth in foam.

Give me another one
and I will put this
dead tin to rest on the bar.

Sorry, was that a choir?
I've never heard hymns
sung in short skirts and heels.

I got soul, but I’m no soldier…
Sunday school’s got its roots inside me,
but God didn’t draft me for his army.

Pull up a chair and we’ll share communion.
I can’t burn if I’m swimming in holy water.
Sure you can preach, just make it a new sermon.

Izy at Real Toads made the challenge easy, watch the video and  write a poem inspired by it. Yep, that is where my muse took me.  Out of Standard ~ Film School Drop Out Edition

You have captured that devil-may-care attitude which might be prevalent the day before an apocalypse.. too late for tears, pass me a beer! Girls? Sure!

You are our Real Toads speedy keen lately, Susie! Number one with a bullet. You've done a nice job, too, on what I find to be a very difficult challenge.

Love this Susie, especially your last lines " Sure you can preach, just make it a new sermon." I think we need some new sermons. Well done.

Very cool. Matches the clip but stands well on its own. I love the voice in this, and the last line is just great!

WOW! I feel as if this comments on my poem, though yours was first. Great minds! Good choice of Voice.

All I can say is: Pro at work. Inventively crafted with a hard core meaning for all of us.

I love this Susie--it really seems to have the same flavor as that clip, which made me feel like drowning might not be a bad thing. (I was thinkin he got sold, but he's not a soldier. Miracle Ear for Christmas, please ;_))

I just love those last two lines:

I can’t burn if I’m swimming in holy water.
Sure you can preach, just make it a new sermon.

great job as usual here, susie! I love how you focused on the beer and the high heeled choir, yet you made the character and message one of your very own. Viva la
Susie, it's true, you are often #1 on the Toads Hit Parade. How you can turn out something of such great quality so fast amazes me. I'm thinking you must LIVE in the Garden and work on a tiny laptop, as I am sure the Garden has WiFi.

Talk about deconstructing the narcissism of the Justin character. Your comments on communion, etc., amazing. Loved this. Amy

Ah, nice line. This was really difficult and you delivered. My pome is pretty short, but it was an agonizing 45 minutes!
