Where is Spring

It should be spring,
but death clings to branches.
Spiny limbs claw the air
trying to puncture the frozen
bubble of winter.

Brave oaks await the robin's resurrection song.

Kerry over at Real Toads challenged us to write a poem about what this time of the year means to us. Recently I made a trip to Missouri and was caught in a spring snow. "April, Come she will..."

Very nice. What I always find disheartening is when the blossoms have come out on the fruit trees or the flowers have started to bloom, and then a frost comes along and kills them.

Your photo is so atmospheric - it looks so cold but I would like to take a walk there. I like the way the final line of your poem leaves us with a note of hope.

What a beautiful photo and the poem also. I don't see the winter as death so much but there is a sense of the trees clawing the air (and it's terrible if things blossom too early). We still have patches of snow here (in upstate New York) and I am sure there could be more to come! Thanks. k.

We are beginning to doubt it too. I thought it was the Gulfstream letting us down.

Wow, up here we've zinged right in to early summer - HOT! Dogs panting in the yard, doors open, hummingbirds, bumble bees.......hard to believe there is snow in other places.

Winter is only giving it up with resentment this year, I think. You caught that, here.
