Feathers of Poe

I wade the blue water
to stand in the oak tree’s reflection
seeking its strength to keep
me from drowning in shadows.

Tomorrow drinks of the ripples
around my waist……
I pray the sun will shine brighter
to burn melancholy’s rope
from my feet.

If floats on the waves
bringing me little comfort.
I am scarred from suppositions
camouflaged as dreams.

I watch the birds write
a winged poem in the sky,
hoping the verses will not fall
in feathers of Poe.

I have been reading the book Empty Chairs by Stacey Danson. This poem just seemed to be birthed from it.

..Susie your ending verse is excellent... birds are indeed poetic in many ways... some lines i find deeply sad and heavy like when you wrote -- I pray the sun will shine to burn melancholy's rope from my feet... smiles...
Some brilliant metaphors in there and enviable images.
'just birthed' as well. You are blessed by this offspring.

smiles...nice nod to the Poe there in end...it is cool watching nature write poetry...that is magic...standing in the reflection of the tree is really cool as well...

have you been watching the following? might not be your cup of tea but its about them trying to catch a serial killer that kills based on Poe...

Ah. Those suppositions can be so heavy and limiting. What a wonderful way of putting all of this. Lovely poem. k.

Feathers of Poe is such an evocative phrase. Your readers feel the melancholy and the yearning for it to ease. The water wafted 'round my knees in a familiar way..

Visiting from dVerse. I so want Spring to arrive and it is close...I can feel it. Love your write and "to burn melancholy’s rope from my feet." I so wish the sun were here as that is simply what would happen.

Loved the line:

"I am scarred from suppositions
camouflaged as dreams."

I wonder what superstitions you were thinking.
