Emotic Stares

Picked from the garden of their youth,
flowers with perfect bone structure
bloom with exotic petals.

Camera flashes of emotic stares,
bedroom seduction, innocence
are hot house images pressed in portfolios.

Critical eyes choose the blossoms to display
in advertising gardens where painted flowers
attract a population willing to buy a lie.

This is a great indictment of the objectification of the beauty industry. Also, it's a really good poem.

And toss them out as soon as there is any sign of wilting, I imagine! A very evocative read, Susie. Well penned!

That last line was great, so many willing to buy into such a thing, wonderful verse.

Thank you Pat...I have bought a lie or two sadly enough

ugh...far too real...buy the lie...and the greatest loss in this to me is the girls who learn it...

It must be fun inside your head :-)

Seems most of Hollywood and most of the singers and models are all mostly plastic now. beauty is bought and paid for at a high price when it;s natural beauty has been forgotten.
This speaks such a gentle truth.

So true, this look below the surface of things...but I still like that picture. *hides*

PS--you-know-what will be up tomorrow, if the creek don't rise.

Great symbolism in this poem along with a great societal comment

using beauty for wealth, this is why art, such as this piece, can only measure beauty. advertising can at best be clever, but never art. and so the image of picking the flowers is so good becuz of the inevitable death.

I agree... there's much more than meets the eye.

Great commentary in a wonderfully poetic fashion. The finish is killer, and the image fantastic!

Ben it can be fun inside my head, but then it can be hell...lol

Thank you Daydreamer...
Painted flowers and buying a lie ... so complimentary to each other in the verse... I loved the disenchantment of yours with the general perceptions... I liked the way you put it across in the verse...
