Halloween

the timid waver
it is the night of the bold
shadows walk the night

halloween adorns
the moon with a rusty scarf
tied with orange ribbon

jack-o-lanterns smile
their candle grins on doorsteps
welcoming goblins

witches lips chant
their spells on the harvest wind
dread shivering limbs

ghosts rattle their chains
macabre music
symphony of bones

midnight approaches
the pinnacle of haunting
fear inhales a breath

A great set of scary haiku Susie.
I'm sharing this one with my son, whose birthday is on Halloween!

Wonderful images here; I was caught in the spell of your words, especially the goose-pimpley excitement you inspire. Fear inhales a breath was one of those lines that makes all other poets stop, stare, heave a great sigh and admit, "I wish I'd thought of that line." Nice haiku!

Yep! That'll do it. Or as Shakespeare said: "Now 'tis the very witching time of night, when graveyards yawn, and Hell itself breathes out contagion on this world."
Great Halloween poem, Susie. I like it!

I've had lots of children on my doorstep, but no goblins, I'm glad to say!

(i'm timid. i waver as i read this!)
what I truly like about Halloween is that ghosts are all human in disguise, not real.

after seeing those bloody faces, not much fears left to think about.

of course, midnight haunting imagery is scary, as they are captured here.

Happy Halloween.
Thanks for the cheers.

Loved this little series of poems, each one good by itself, but perfect when grouped together. Nicely done, Susie!
