A Quiet Amen

A table set,
yellowed linen,
cracked dishes,
bent silverware.

Bowed heads
saying grace,
lifting thanks
for the little
they possess.

Wealth counted
in moments together,
not in the size
of their bank account.

Love lives here
in a patchwork
four room house.
Joy celebrated
in a quiet amen.

This expresses my house when I was growing up. Not much in the way of luxuries and sometimes putting food on the table was difficult, but we blessed what we had and were glad to be a family.

Cutting to the chase of what it's all about, far too often forgotten. Loved it, Susie.

wonderful poetry there, Susie. Love the last two stanzas.

'wealth counted/ in moments together/ not in the size of their bank account- love it. :)

'love lives here/ in a patchwork/ four room house'- brilliant image.

Cheers!

It seems to always be those that have the least are the most thankful. Very nice .

I make it a point to have dinner at the table for this very reason...a great time to be a family. Nice painting.

I just love "lifting thanks" — what a lovely phrase. And the whole poem rings true.
